A City That Rebuilt
Spray foam insulation in Waveland is mostly about newer and raised homes. Waveland, incorporated in 1972, was described as ground zero of Hurricane Katrina's landfall in 2005. South of the CSX mainline the area was almost completely destroyed, and the rest of the city flooded heavily. The Waveland Civic and Cultural Center was the only public building left standing; it now houses the Ground Zero Hurricane Museum. Hurricane Camille also made landfall here in 1969. Waveland had 7,210 residents in 2020.
Raised and rebuilt homes
Many homes are post-2005 and many are raised. Closed-cell foam under the floor keeps humid air and heat from coming up through it. Attics in newer homes usually need sealing at penetrations and topping up.
Ducts
Where the HVAC and ducts sit in the attic, sealing them or foaming the roof deck makes a noticeable difference in summer.
Flood zones
Check local rules on enclosing space below raised homes before planning any enclosure.
Under-floor ducts and plumbing
In raised homes, ductwork and plumbing often run under the floor. Closed-cell foam on the subfloor seals around those penetrations. We make sure ducts below the floor are sealed and insulated too.
Comparing quotes
Ask each insulation company to list material, thickness and R-value area by area, so you can compare.
Older homes north of the tracks
Homes north of the railroad that flooded but were repaired may have mixed insulation. We inspect and remove anything damaged.
Scheduling
Floor foam on a raised house is often done from underneath without entering the living space, though everyone still needs to stay out during curing.
